In the serene surroundings of Sicklerville, NJ, close to the bustling Philadelphia PA area, Monteo Fajoto Myers has been quietly revolutionizing his guitar skills. With just three years of guidance under the expert tutelage of Study with Adam (SWA), Monteo has swiftly moved from a casual player to a burgeoning guitar legend in his own right.
I got a chance to talk with Monteo about his music, and we had a great time making this video.
Monteo’s musical journey started with occasional guitar playing in his early years, but it was his decision to join SWA on June 23, 2020, that truly marked the beginning of his transformation. What drew him to SWA was the variety of resources available – from well-made instructional videos guiding him through songs to detailed music theory sections and helpful exercises. The regular Zoom meetings and constructive feedback on his song performances became crucial parts of his learning journey.
Currently, Monteo is on a musical adventure, exploring more songs from Adam’s list and trying his hand at arranging songs not covered in the lessons. His aim is to add his own touch to these arrangements and seek Adam’s advice for improvement. This ongoing quest for excellence through practice is a testament to his commitment to refining his technique.
As for his choice of instruments, Monteo’s music flows through a Taylor 214 CE, and he’s recently acquired a Cordoba Flamingo for his collection.
Monteo’s musical taste is as diverse as his learning approach, with a special fondness for pop songs from the ’70s to today. His guitar inspirations range from fingerstyle experts to jazz masters like Adam Rafferty, Tommy Emmanuel, Dani Vargas, and George Benson, among others.
To get a taste of Monteo’s talent, check out his rendition of “Lovely Day” on his SWA platform, showcasing the progress he’s made under Adam’s guidance. It’s a performance brimming with joy and a deep love for the guitar. Watch it here:
But what truly makes Monteo stand out is his approach to practice and learning. He believes in short, focused practice sessions rather than long hours of strumming. This method has not only made learning more enjoyable but has also led to steady progress and a deeper appreciation for his musical journey.
Monteo’s experience with SWA is more than just a story of musical growth; it’s a tale of persistence, enjoyment, and the pure delight of making music. His journey serves as an inspiration for anyone who has ever dreamed of playing guitar and creating their own tunes, proving that with passion, the right guidance, and a bit of perseverance, musical dreams can come true.
