At eighteen Andrea was awarded the title of “Italian musical excellence.” He has already released 6 solo albums, the most recent Mediterraneo “(2016).

Wow, Adam, what a great interview from a lovely guy, where do you find all these people? It is inspiring for a guitar player – makes me imagine a few years from now, with a kind of International Guitar Fingerstyle Supercamp, somewhere lovely like Tuscany or by an Austrian mountain, with Adam Rafferty, Emil Ernebro, Petteri Sariola, and Andrea Valeri all giving classes… Maybe it’s like expecting the UK Government to be able to manage Brexit, or the US Government to reconcile Trump and his crowd with reason, science, and the well-being of people of all races and nationalities. Ho ho ho. Except it would be a lot nicer. (More like an A minor 7 than say a tritone with a flat 10th or something!)
Wow, great interview. I am deeply struck by how much Andrea feels the soul of the music, not the playing of it. You can hear it in his playing. He clearly thinks of himself as a vessel delivering the precious cargo that is the music, not a player with a bag of tricks to show off. As someone who spent my academic and work life as a scientist and engineer and in retirement striving to become a musician, I struggle every day to remember the art and not just the craft of playing. It doesn’t come naturally to me, but experiencing Andrea as you have helped us to do, helps me to focus on that real goal, to become a vessel of the music.
Adam, everything you do helps me with that focus. Thanks so much for bringing Andrea to us and for all the things you do to help us appreciate the music.
